The HKIPP Annual & Circulatory Exhibition showcases photos taken by over 60 professional photographers who are members of the HKIPP.

 

Founded in 1987, the Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers (HKIPP) is recognized as the most presentable and prestigious organization in the region, with a well-established circle comprising the best local professional photographers. Members' finest pieces will be published in the magazine, Images and exhibited at the HKIPP Annual Exhibition. Events and exhibitions have been organized with an objective to promote photography. In the last decade, HKIPP has been successively organizing a two-week Annual Exhibition at the Times Square, with enormous overwhelming responses received from the public.

This exhibition is held in association with the International Seminar on Cantonese Opera held in Hong Kong from 12-13 January 2013.  It is one of the centenary events to mark the 100th anniversary of opera artist, Madam Yam Kim Fai (1913-1989) to commemorate her art and achievement in the history of Cantonese opera. She is regarded as an icon in Cantonese opera and an important symbol of Hong Kong culture.

 

This exhibition is targeted to arouse the interest of the general public and the young generation on this precious art form for its promotion and popularization of Cantonese opera. The Exhibition will showcase video presentations, images, magazines, press cuttings and all other valuable collection items relevant to Madam Yam Kim Fai. Visitors will receive souvenirs until stock last. Group bookings from schools and organizations are welcome, with guided tours provided.

This exhibition uses materials from the Non-Latin Type Collection at the Department of Typography & Graphic Communication to illustrate the design process for the typographic representation of many of the world's scripts. The exhibits include original letter-drawings and related material that reveal design decisions in conjunction with technical considerations that played a significant role in shaping the means of visual communication in non-Latin writing-systems up to the present day. Concurrent exhibitions include "Type Directors Club exhibition" held at School of Design Gallery and "Letter.2 type design competition exhibition" held at Podium of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

The exhibition is co-curated by Dr. Fiona Ross and Mr. Vaibhav Singh, who will give guided talks about the provenance of the materials exhibited, the holdings of the Non-Latin Type Collection and the use of primary surces for research and typographic practice today.

This Exhibition showcases the prototypes or real products of the assistive device presented at the Environmental Issues Student Innovation Project (EISIP) by students studying Occupational Therapy in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. Each group of students are required to design an assistive device for a person with disabilities and the group with the highest mark would be nominated to receive the Prof. Alan Tam Memorial Fund Award.

The Image Exhibition marking the fourth anniversary of the 5.12 Sichuan Earthquake, aims at capturing the moving stories and wonderful moments experienced by young students in Sichuan rural village, whose families were shattered by the ruthless earthquake in 2008.

 

All the photos were taken by the children from a perspective, totally brand-new and insightful to adults' eyes. In addition, a video show will be staged to present a soul-searching journey of a young soical worker who has discovered his own life meaning through helping those in need in the quake-affected communities. A series of exploratory workshops will also be organized to boost the interest of the PolyU community on the anniversary event.

The Energy Nexus: Wearable Art and the Energy Nexus: Fiber Art exhibitions will be showcased by concurrent exhibition at the Exhibition Hall of Pao Yue-kong Library and the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre (28 – 31 December 2011).

 

Energy Nexus: Wearable Art is an invitational exhibition of works by international professional designers, artists, and professors, who transform fibers and other materials into wearable art. The range of wearable art runs from the functional to the conceptual, combining creative expression with material manipulation, fiber art, and the latest technology. This art-oriented exhibition celebrates the vibrant variety, and interplay between new explorations and traditional textile techniques: the silhouettes and the surface textures; and the reflection of the artists' views ranging from history, society, philosophy to beauty, as well as sustainability issues in our changing environment, all of which invites communication between artists and audience.

The PolyU Fashion Show 2011 will be showcased by concurrent exhibitions at the Exhibition Hall of Pao Yue-kong Library (Part 1) and the Fashion Gallery of Institute of Textiles & Clothing (Part 2).  The concurrent exhibitions will display the creative work of twenty-four graduating students selected from the BA(Hons) Scheme in Fashion and Textiles and HD Scheme in Fashion and Texiles Studies.

 

All exhibits had been entered into a competition and the following prizes were awarded at the PolyU Fashion Show 2011: Overall Grand Awards; Most Promising Young Talent Awards; SAGA Travelling Scholarship; Design Excellence Award; Best Use of Synthetic Leather Award; The Best Eyewear Accessorised Collection; Outstanding Menswear Award; The Best Innovation Award; Australia Study Tour Scholarship; Best Use of Australian Merino Award; Best Marketability Award; The Best Application of Technology Award; Best Use of Colour Award;  Best Accessorised Collection Award; and Creativity Award.
